The Alta Mora Etna Rosso is 100% Nerello Mascalese - indigenous to Sicily and the predominant red grape of Mt. Etna. This is a lovely example of the variety. Aromas of flinty red berries, red cherries and gravel with a bright floral overlay. The beautiful perfume carries through to the palate too, with an exhilarating lift to the red fruit and stony flavours. The finish is long and clean, nicely framed by suave tannins and harmonious acidity. Pair with tuna steaks on the barbeque or a fennel sausage pasta.

Alta Mora is owned by the Cusumano family. Their grapes are grown and harvested on the slopes of the active volcano, Mt. Etna, in Sicily. The Alta Mora name represents the great heights of the vineyards on the mountain and the dark, black volcanic soil. The volcano itself is nearly 11,000ft high and vineyards are planted up to 4,000ft. It has been a lifelong dream for the Cusumano brothers to build a winery among these black, fertile and dynamic soils. They have also purchased many new small tanks in order to vinify the grapes from their estates parcel by parcel. Twenty years of experience has led Cusumano to the realization that their vineyards in the Ficuzza area are especially suited to white grapes; consequently, the team is uprooting four hectares of Nero d’Avola and Cabernet Sauvignon, replacing them with local and international white grapes. They plan to release the new Carricante wine from their Etna AltaMora estate, where they own seven hectares in the Contrada Arrigo; they have also bought two more hectares of Nerello Mascalese in the area of Passo Cannone.
